
Keeping Your Bathroom Infrared Heaters Safe (and Dry)
Putting infrared lamps in a bathroom is a bit of a gamble. You’ve got steam everywhere and water splashing every which way. It’s a recipe for a short circuit if you aren’t careful. That’s why we build our heaters to an IP65 standard—basically, we make sure the guts of the machine stay bone-dry, no matter how long your shower is.
Dealing with the Steam
Here’s the thing about steam: it finds every tiny gap. If a little moisture sneaks in and hits a live terminal, you’ve got a ground fault on your hands. Not fun. To stop that, we use silicone gaskets and sealed cable entries. It creates a tight barrier that keeps the internal circuitry safe from the damp. It’s all about making sure the electrical path stays dry, period.
Getting the Insulation Right
We don’t take any chances with insulation. We use high-temperature ceramics and specialized insulators where the lamps end because those materials don’t freak out when they get humid. Plus, we use double-insulated wiring. Think of it as a backup plan for your backup plan. But look, the hardware is only half the battle. Youhaveto wire these into a system with an RCD or GFCI. Our heaters handle the moisture, but the RCD is your ultimate fail-safe. It’s the “break glass in case of emergency” button for your electricity.
The Heat Struggle
Infrared heaters get hot. Really hot. This creates a bit of a headache for us. If we make the seals too thick to keep water out, we accidentally trap the heat inside the chassis. If the air can’t move, the unit can overheat. To fix this, we use specific alloys for the housing that pull the heat away from the electrical junctions and push it outward. It’s a balancing act between “water-tight” and “cool enough to function.” A quick tip for you: Keep the unit’s footprint small and mount it away from the direct spray of the shower. It’ll make your gaskets last a lot longer. Also, give your seals a once-over every year. Heat cycles eventually make rubber brittle. That’s usually where the leaks start, so a quick check now saves a big headache later.
