Putting heaters in a pergola sounds like a great idea until you realize you’re basically inviting humidity, condensation, and random rain splashes to ruin your electronics. Most standard infrared lamps just can’t hack it. They burn out fast because moisture creeps into the electrical contacts or—even worse—a drop of water hits a red-hot quartz tube and cracks it instantly. By managing how the air moves around the lamp, we stop condensation from forming on the cold ends of the tube—which is usually where the electrical failures start. The honest trade-offs Look, waterproofing isn’t magic; it comes with a few quirks. Because the units are more sealed, they don’t breathe as easily as an open-frame heater. You might notice the housing feels a bit warmer to the touch. Also, these protective casings add some weight, so just make sure your mounting brackets are sturdy enough to hold the extra load. One last tip: if you’re installing these in a really humid spot, go with a GFCI breaker. It’s just a smart safety move to handle any ground faults that might pop up after a few seasons of battling the elements.
