
Getting Your Sidel SBO and Matrix Lamps Right
We built our replacement IR lamps to work across the board—whether you’re still running the old SBO 4/6 units or you’ve moved up to the modern Matrix series. The idea was simple: make them a true drop-in replacement. You shouldn’t have to mess with your wiring or move things around just to get a new lamp in place. It should just work.
The Heat Factor
These lamps use a high-wattage, short-wave infrared spectrum. Why? Because PET preforms need to heat up fast. We’re very picky about voltage and wattage matching. If those are off, your lamps burn out way too soon. To get that “thermal punch” needed for high-speed blowing, we push more wattage through a shorter quartz tube. Just a heads-up: more power means more stress on your power supplies. Make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job, or you’ll risk overheating the housing.
Built to Last (and Fit)
Rapid heating and cooling is brutal on glass. That’s why we use heavy-wall quartz. It handles the thermal shock without cracking. Depending on which SBO model you have, you’ll see R7s or SK15 connectors. We keep the tolerances on those end-caps incredibly tight. Here’s why that matters: if the lamp is loose in the socket, you get electrical arcing. That’s a quick way to kill a brand-new lamp and potentially fry your socket.A snug fit is a safe fit.
Real-World Performance
You can swap these out during your usual maintenance window without worrying about alignment. They match the OEM dimensions exactly. But the real magic is in the spectral output. We’ve tuned these so the preform heats evenly from the outside in. No “cold spots.” When you have cold spots, you get uneven wall thickness in your bottles. Not a good look. We’ve tested these across the whole Sidel lineup to make sure the wavelength hits the PET at just the right depth, whether you’re running tiny preforms or the big ones.
