
Making 2500W IR Radiators Actually Fit Your Sidel Machine
If you’re trying to pair a 2500W IR radiator with a Sidel blow molding machine, you already know that matching the wattage is the easy part. The real headache is getting it to actually fit. We wanted to fix that. We built our current line to slide right into everything from those old-school SBO frames to the newer Matrix series. No hacking, no drilling, no “making it work.” It just fits.
Dealing with that 2500W Heat
Pushing 2500W through a compact IR tube creates a massive amount of heat. It’s intense. To stop the tubes from bowing or the filaments from just giving up, we use a specific kind of quartz. It can take the punch. But here’s the thing: when you’re running these at full tilt, that heat has to go somewhere. Double-check your oven’s airflow and cooling fans. If they aren’t up to the task, you’re risking your reflectors.
No Drills, No Drama
Nobody wants to spend a scheduled teardown drilling new holes into a machine. That’s why we obsessed over the physical footprint. We calibrated the dimensions down to the millimeter so these slide into the existing slots. We mirrored the original Sidel mounting points, which means you can toss the custom brackets in the trash. We also used standard connectors, so you can wire everything up and get back to production without the usual fuss.
The Trade-offs (Because nothing is perfect)
We use a specialized coating to tune the infrared spectrum specifically for PET preforms. It basically narrows the waveband so the heat hits the plastic more effectively. It makes heating faster. Really fast. The catch? It makes the filament a bit more sensitive. These tubes take a beating in high-cycle shops, so we leaned heavily into thermal shock resistance for the quartz glass. It’s a balancing act, but it works. One last tip: if you’re putting these high-output units into an old SBO machine, take a look at your power supply first. The extra draw can trip your breakers if your electrical panel is ancient. Once you’ve cleared that, you’re good to go. Your cycle times will thank you.
