Getting Your Sidel Heating Lamps Right
When you’re swapping out heating lamps in a PET blow molding setup, you can’t just look at the wattage and call it a day. It’s a bit more finicky than that. We built our replacement lamps to work across the whole Sidel lineup. Whether you’re still running the old-school SBO systems or you’ve moved up to the Matrix series, these are designed to just… fit. No hacking the oven, no weird modifications. You just pop them in and get back to work. The heat side of things Sidel machines are picky about infrared energy. If the heat is off, you end up with “pearlization” or overheated preforms, which is a headache nobody wants. We match the OEM voltage and wattage exactly. Why? Because we don’t want your power controllers tripping or acting sluggish. Now, high-wattage lamps are great for keeping your cycle times fast. You get the heat you need. But a quick heads-up: if you push the wattage past what the OEM recommended, your cooling blowers are going to feel the strain. And if your vents are dusty or clogged? Those lamps will practically bake your reflectors. The fit and feel We use heavy-duty quartz glass and specific halogen fills so the color temperature stays steady. The connectors are the part people usually worry about. We made ours match Sidel’s wiring perfectly. If your machine uses R7s or those specialized sockets, these slide right in. No forcing, no bending contacts, no swearing at the machine. We’re talking millimeter-level precision here. If a lamp is off by even 2mm, you’re either stressing the quartz or the connector won’t seat. Our tubes fit the clips and brackets on both SBO and Matrix lines without any fuss. What this means for your day The best part is that you don’t have to spend hours recalibrating your heating zones from scratch. You wire it up, set your timers, and you’re running. Just keep in mind that high heat density comes with a trade-off. If you run these lamps at absolute max output, the filaments won’t last as long. One pro tip: keep your reflectors clean. The cleaner they are, the more IR energy bounces back into the preform, which makes everything run smoother.
